[sticky post] a new intro...

Some things about me:

I'm a Christian. I also happen to be a lesbian. It might be hard for some people to understand how a person can be both, but it's not really my goal to have everyone agree with my particular views on the subject. I accept differences of opinion on that front as long as everyone is treated respectfully.

I'm coming to the end of a year that I've taken off of school in order to get healthy both emotionally and physically. I've spent that year adapting to a healthier lifestyle in order to reach a healthy weight: eating controlled portion sizes and working out regularly. So far I've lost a little over 50 pounds. I have 15 to 20 pounds to go before I reach my goal weight.

In September, I head back to university to study Economics and Mathematics. I'm planning on attending a local church and joining their young adults' program. I'm also really excited to sign up to play intramural baseball and basketball. I haven't played either since high school and have really missed it.

This journal is meant to be a collection of thoughts about my life. That includes discussion about Christianity, the successes and failures of my attempt to live a healthier life, and other random stuff from my day to day life.

feeling patriotic

Something worth knowing about me: really silly things can make me weep like a little baby. Things like: a good montage; a good story of triumph; a good rousing speech. And those kinds of things tend to happen a lot in the world of sports so... yeah sports can make me weep like a little girl. So when it gets to be Olympics time, I kind of turn into a weepy mess for two weeks. It's terrible.

Now... so far I'm less excited about it this year. Partly because I just never find the summer Olympics to be as interesting as the winter (I'm just less fond of the sports to begin with and then on top of that Canadians traditionally do better in the winter games). But also partly because the Vancouver games sparked such a huge wave of patriotism here in Canada that there was just a lot of extra excitement for me so... just this year doesn't have much of a chance of living up to the experience for me. But thinking about the Olympics again has me thinking of and reliving my favourite moments from the 2010 Olympics and that has me feeling kind of weepy and patriotic.

And mostly, I'm thinking that Clara Hughes is kind of my hero. Clara Hughes is one of only 5 athletes world wide who have won medals at both the summer and winter games. She's the only Canadian to do it. And of those 5 athletes she is the only person to ever win multiple medals at both games. And she's tied the record for most Olympic medals won by a Canadian.

But that's not really why she's my hero.

THIS is why...Collapse )

weird funk

I am... oddly sad tonight. Yesterday, K, E, G and I (ha. "I" being me, not an initial) drove up to my cottage yesterday, spent the day on the beach today and then drove home tonight. And it was a really good trip (except for a brief moment where we got lost because of a construction detour but then it ended up that we weren't really anywhere near as lost as we thought we were so it was all good). Basically, it was like every single other time we hang out wherein we just spent a lot of time doing the girl talk. Except we spent that time in a different location than normal: the van, the cottage living room, the beach. But I made a conscious effort this time not to make any plans because whenever I make plans and then they don't really happen, I start to get really irritated. So I just tried to go with the flow and it was all good.

Last year, we did the same thing, and it was pretty similar except that the whole time I felt like I couldn't say much about what we were talking about because I wasn't out to K and G yet (not from lack of trying). So it was really nice to be able to say the things that I was thinking instead of just being quiet.

I'm not sure why it's left me in such a funk though.
